Employment

One in Six Project

One in Six people lose their job within a year of becoming disabled. The One in Six project aims to challenge the barriers that disabled people face in employment and to support more disabled people (and people with long term health conditions) to gain confidence to move towards employment and realise their career aspirations.

Our One in Six project team supports people living in Doncaster and Rotherham by offering:

  • One to one job coaching support – including confidence building, developing your CV, job search and interview practice.
  • Peer support groups – structured learning programmes delivered in groups to offer an opportunity to share experiences, and support one another.
  • Volunteering and work experience – Access to a Work Experience Co-Ordinator who is able to support volunteering, work placements or employment by helping to identify barriers and co-operate with service users to overcome these, while providing structured support in the event of issues arising from disability in the workplace.

We also work with businesses and can offer free training (In Doncaster and Rotherham) and bespoke support to support employers to become disability confident.

See our Training page and Access Audit page for more information.
